This is the second sequel that started with "The Portals" and then the follow-up story "Saving Missmith."
This was written at the beginning of S5 'Buffy,' and Glory's powers had yet to be defined, so in this story she is more powerful than in series.
Buffy is still hurting over Riley's departure.
Also, Tara is still a more powerful witch than Willow.In the Xenaverse, It's toward the end of S5 and Joxer is dead, killed by Livia, Eve's Roman persona (in the episode "Eve"). So even though Eve is no longer the feared and despised Livia, Meg still hates her.
Sunnydale is overrun with vampires, more than Buffy and the Scoobies can handle. Virgil, Joxer and Meg's son, has been mortally wounded and is dying. Xena agrees to help Buffy if Virgil can be saved using today's medical advances.
