A tale in three acts:

"Annie!" he calls again, and she turns. "Tell him DI Sam Williams wants to speak with him." -

Summary
When Sam disappears suddenly from Gene's life, Gene initially has his own reasons for not trying to understand why. However, with a little help from Annie and a spate of mysterious events including raids on the station, an amnesiac, married Sam living in Hyde and bizarre government interest in a recent murder, Gene comes to see that there may be far more to Sam's appearance and disappearance than meets the eye. Can he even trust Sam at all? And what about the way their relationship was developing, just before Sam left? To discover the truth about Sam, Gene may have to face some uncomfortable truths of his own...

Summary
Before his death in 1980, Sam asks Gene to visit his young counterpart in 1987. By 1987 Gene has long come to terms with Sam's departure, but he knows that seeing him again, even a different version of the man he loved, will hurt. What he doesn't know is that eighteen year old Sam knows of Gene, has something close to a fixation.
Gene wants, desperately, to let Sam live his own life, a new life, Sam is young and he feels old. But he can't stay away. He's fascinated by the differences and similarities between the Sam he knew and the Sam who has just started training to be a police officer. And Sam --- well, he's stubborn, sure that Gene holds the answers to his questions, and attracted by a chemistry neither of them can adequately explain.

Annie's growing used to having two sets of expressions, one for work, the other with sort of look she only dares give Gene at home, that says she knows him even if he likes to pretend otherwise.

Notes
I'm not a LoM fan, only made it through 1/3 of the series. But I adored Annie, and if there was one LoM character that I wanted to see in A2A, it was her.
Pairing her with Alex is unexpected and awesome. Pairing Annie and Gene, even more unexpected, and making it a three-way with Sam yet even more so.
Anyway, LOVE.

Life on Mars andDoctor Who crossover/Sam Tyler is the Master/AU for LotTL/Christmas fic. Sam finds a garishly wrapped box with an iPod in it outside his door on Christmas morning, 1973. What's especially mad is that the iPod isn't even his - it's filled with rubbish like The Scissor Sisters and McFly.
