After suffering and surviving severe physical and psychological abuse, Anders' mind copes the only way it can - by sectioning off what happened and suppressing it. Now Anders, an ER doctor, remains oblivious to the torture he was subjected to and the lapses in his memory. When a slightly broody and strange man comes into his life, he falls head over heels infatuated. And it's returned.
But there's always something there, simmering beneath the surface, like his lover knows more about him than he's letting on and that his protective nature over him isn't entirely unjustified.
And there's someone waiting for him, itching for the perfect opportunity to escape and finish what they started.

Prequel to "The Champion's Weakness". This tells the long and complicated history between Anders and the Templar Rolan, from their time in the Circle Tower to their time together as Wardens in Amaranthine. It's a relationship that begins with mutual affection and attraction, that slowly turns into something very dark and twisted.
