Summary
In the mid 500s BCE, the Phocaean Greeks began to expand on the Tyrrhenian coast and settle on islands such as Corsica. This constituted as a threat to Carthage who controlled Sardinia at the time and the Etruscans who occupied the western mid-Italian shoreline. Fear of piracy and Greek expansion caused the creation of an impressive alliance.
