Young Thrawn story, 12 years before ANH. After Captain Parck discovered a talented alien on an inhabited planet, and brought him back to Coruscant, Thrawn still had to make his way up as the only non-human in the Imperial Navy. This is his first occasion to prove himself to the Empire, not to mention First Officer Piett and visiting HoloNet star Wynssa Starflare.
Uses background provided in Timothy Zahn's story "Mist Encounter", as well as Michael A. Stackpole's "In the Empire's Service" and "Blood and Honor".
