Jimmy Novak awakens back to a world where the Apocalypse did not happen and Castiel is apparently going around the world with his face and proclaiming himself 'God'—a 'God' who is directly linked to Jimmy, and where Jimmy happens to be the key factor in stopping this false God with help from the Winchesters, Bobby and a formerly dead archangel-cum-pagan god. After Heaven on Earth becomes real and the Apocalypse goes as angels had planned, Jimmy Novak finds himself in control of his own body again and seemingly the only real human left in a world where the climate has changed, ghost towns are the norm and time flows strangely. The fact that since he wakes up, and for the entire following year, he keeps on hearing Castiel's voice inside his head is probably just proof that he's going crazy.

After spending a year in an 'Institute for Disturbed and Troubled Youths' (read: Teen Nuthouse) for 'mild schizophrenia' (read: hearing angels talking to him), 15 year old Jimmy Novak is losing his faith. His parents decide to give him a dog to help readjust to the world outside of the Institute - a fluffy puppy from a shelter, named Castiel. Cas, trapped in the form of a dog by an interfering Gabriel, is determined to help Jimmy regain his faith, and along the way learns a lot about what it means to have a friend. He's not too happy about this Dean Winchester kid who keeps hanging around, probably just trying to get into Jimmy's pants, though he does give pretty awesome ear-scratches... And somewhere, Gabriel's watching and laughing his arse off.
