When Scarlet is attacked on her way home from school by a dog, she doesn't expect her life to be flipped upside down. Returning to school and showing her friends her scars, the names 'beast' and 'monster' become part of almost everyone's daily vocabulary, inclusing her best friend's, Gwen. When handsome, popular Bailey comes back to school from living abroad for a year, he is bombarded with stories of 'The Beast'. Discovering he's been put in an extra class containing only himself and Scarlet and realising she has the knowledge he needs to pass his exams, he tries to make her time at school worth it in return for the information. An unlikely friendship strikes up between them as Bailey shows Scarlet how to live once again. However, when Bailey's 'girlfriend' catches them sharing a tender moment together, she sets the entire year on Scarlet, ripping her to shreds with their words. With no Bailey to help her, Scarlet returns to her former life as a recluse, harbouring a bitter resentment towards Bailey. Still, being a girl of honour, Scarlet upholds her promise made to Bailey a few weeks earlier and turns up at his party, completely not expecting what he's going to do...

The town of Beacon Hills generally avoids the old Hale Manor. It’s surrounded by a forest of tall trees, winds that can’t possibly be anything but supernatural, and a foreboding sense of doom. The townspeople like to tell their children stories about it, like to tell them that if they listen closely enough, they can hear the beast howling in the night, looking for prey.
Stiles would like to inform them, however, that he’s probably just howling because Finstock decided that spicy soup was the way to go and spicy for Finstock is “ow-you-fucking-teapot-are-you-trying-to-kill-me?!” for normal people (or normal beasts– semantics, semantics).

Once upon a time in a flat on Baker Street, a young consulting detective lived in 221B. Although he was handsome and brilliant, the consultant was spoiled, selfish and unkind. But then one winter’s night a woman he had solved a case for offered him a single rose as a thank-you for his help, as well as extended an invitation for dinner. Repulsed by her sentiment, the detective sneered at the gift and turned the woman away. But she warned him not to be deceived by his belief that companionship was a weakness, for love and friends are what kept people safe. However, when he dismissed her again the woman revealed herself to not only be a dominatrix, but also an enchantress. The man tried to disprove her powers but it was too late for she had seen that his desire to be brilliant caused him to deny the unexplained ways of magic and love. As punishment she transformed him into a hideous beast and placed a powerful spell on the flat and all who were in there.

Thorin is the Prince of Erebor and believes he can defeat Smaug in a game of riddles. Smaug wins and curses Thorin into a wolf beast. Smaug informs Thorin that he has one year to "become something more" in order to break the spell. Thorin runs from home and finds himself in the Shire. Meanwhile, Bilbo Baggins and the rest of Hobbiton are preparing for winter. When he is attacked by a strange creature, Bilbo feels he must rid the Shire of this scourge. But, when Bilbo is rescued by the beast, he begins to feel a connection towards the creature. Will Thorin break his curse in time? And will he ever realize what the feeling in his heart is towards Bilbo?
