Summary
Now complete! I thank all who commented, kudoed, or read.
This is an apocalyptic alternate universe in which I throw Tony at Steve until they stick. Chapter 7 & Chapter 11 have some nookie, but alas, mostly it's plot. I saw the Avengers movie after I wrote Chapter 10, but I'd already plotted it out before I saw it, my ideas were fairly drastically different. I must admit a few small words/actions from the movie appear to have begun creeping in. I doubt they're spoilers because the context is different, but if you read this before seeing the movie you may experience deja vu when you hear something or see a few seconds of a scene.
Various other Marvel characters appear in this, but the only one who isn't a garden-variety human is Bruce Banner. X-Men avatars enter the story in Chapter 9. Peter Parker enters in Chapter 13, along with a mention of Matt Murdock.

Summary
If life were fair, anyone who managed to survive the apocalypse would be given a fuzzy blanket, some tea, and a nice bed to hide under and weep.
Life is not fair, obviously, and there's no actual end to the end of the world. Instead, there's grief and pain and mud and death, there are minor miracles, and there's the love that gets you out of bed in the morning, despite everything. Life goes on.

Summary
He's been squatting in a convenience store in his old neighborhood because there's plenty of bottled water and nonperishable food that isn’t canned (he needs to find a knife, he's been looking for one for three days now, even a Swiss Army knife would be okay, but he can't find one) but he's not the only one to have had that idea. The glass on the doors is broken because of the three times guys have come in to steal shit, each group more violent than the last.
The Road AU.

"You're sure?" Calvin asked aloud, as he slid his wallet into his jeans pocket and pulled his hoodie on over his head. "I mean - " he trailed off, at a loss for words. "You're really sure?"
"This isn't the kind of thing I'd get wrong," Hobbes replied, stepping back from the window and shaking himself all over. He didn't even sound offended that Calvin was questioning him, just solemn and serious.
