Vincent D’Agosta sat, staring at his venti cup of Starbucks coffee, trying to allow the news to sink in. It seemed it never would, no matter how short a time it had been. He needed the hours, minutes, and seconds to pass a bit faster.... Although he didn't understand how or why Pendergast hadn't allowed D'Agosta to help, and why every time the cop offered his help his friend insulted him, he knew he had to give Pendergast space. This fight would have to be done alone, and quickly. Time was fleeting, however, and he knew he would awaken next week, still feeling the same way. “Sick” or “nauseated” weren’t even the right words to describe how he felt. There was so much more to his emotions than that.
Some spoilers for TWO GRAVES are prominent in Chapter Two.
