The only things they really have in common are, their notoriously alcoholic father, and the fact that both of their lives were irrevocably changed, for better or for worse, when Dean Winchester walked in.
In life, there are too many lessons that must be learned the hard way. Like, how to forgive, and what it actually means to be righteous.

Dean Winchester has lived in Lawrence, Kansas his whole life. He hasn't ever had any real good friends, but that's okay with him. The Novaks move into town at the beginning of his senior year, and before he even knows what's happened, Castiel becomes the best friend Dean's ever had. This fic involves a depressed, self-harming Cas, but it also includes some funny John, funny Sam, funny Gabriel, funny Garth, obviously funny Dean, and lots more pleasantness to drown out the sad.
