Summary
A year and a half post-Reichenbach, a damaged Sherlock Holmes returns to Baker Street. But everything's changed, leaving the friendship between Sherlock and John tense and uncertain.
While struggling to adjust, Sherlock, John, and Mary Morstan find themselves on a case involving betrayal, deception, and tests of friendship. But will it make their bonds stronger or tear them apart? And will it matter if Sherlock's demons pull him under first? An incredibly angst-filled adaptation of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novel. Essentially designed as a theoretical 'next episode' of the show.

Sherlock’s not long out of rehab and there are plenty of doubts as to whether he’s serious about recovery. Plus, the music industry is shaking in its boots over the Napster mess. All John has to do is keep the money coming in and make sure his star doesn't screw things up. After the army, that should be easy, right?

John was obsessed. It wasn't how he liked to categorize himself but it was applicable. What had started out as a harmless crush had become a full-blown obsession. Although John was fairly certain he wasn't the first person to become enamored by Sherlock Holmes.

The prompt:
Sherlock likes the danger, he likes putting his absolute trust in John, letting him do anything at all, feeling free and safe even when they're doing things that are insanely dangerous and unsafe.John thinks this is a very bad idea, feels like one day he won't stop, and he'll betray that absolute trust fatally. He accepts it regardless, because no one has ever placed their life in his hands willingly before, and it's exhilarating, even addictive.
