Summary
Dean Winchester has lived in Lawrence, Kansas his whole life. He hasn't ever had any real good friends, but that's okay with him. The Novaks move into town at the beginning of his senior year, and before he even knows what's happened, Castiel becomes the best friend Dean's ever had. This fic involves a depressed, self-harming Cas, but it also includes some funny John, funny Sam, funny Gabriel, funny Garth, obviously funny Dean, and lots more pleasantness to drown out the sad.

This is basically going to be an epically long adventure story that begins at the end do episode 8x21. It's a story of how Dean, Sam, and Castiel try to complete the third trial to close the gates of Hell, but find that they can't do it on their own. It's a story about the balance between prophesy and free will. It's a story about how two brothers, a fallen angel, an archangel back from the dead, a cured vampire, a LARPer, a prophet, an ex-demon, and a free-spirited hunter triumph against all odds and save the world with the power of free will. It's a story about love, sacrifice, and family. It's also a story about the profound bond between a hunger and his angel and how they use their love to lead their team into a new future entirely of their own making. And Crowley and Naomi can suck it.

Summary
Dean Winchester and his brother Sam have been foster children since he was six years old, after their parents died in a car crash. Bounced around from place to place, it's only when Dean is old enough to consider himself an adult that he takes Sam and hightails it out of that life, preferring to live on their own in crappy motels instead. When they catch wind that their old foster sister Charlie has been kicked out of her home, they decide to take her with them. And for a while, all seems okay.
At least until a shattering death and an unexpected meeting turn the boys' world upside down.
My first attempt at A/U, so if it's terrible...well oh well.
There are definitely still Supernatural-ish elements to this, but for the most part it's a/u.
