It's pretty awesome having Joanna visit campus, even though she sends all of Jim's plans involving a mixture of Bones and alcohol out the window and replaces them with plans involving a mixture of Bones and low-fat milkshakes because it's never too early to worry about cholesterol, apparently.Series

Wherein Pike is the Best Advisor Ever by kayliemalinza

Summary
See, when Pike threatens Jim with physical harm, that's a win for Jim. If the encounter then progresses to Pike actually committing physical harm, well, that's a lose. Jim's current spread is 28.750% (threat), 8.042% (violence), and 59.565% (neither) with a 3.643% margin of error for those times when Jim isn't sure whether Pike's stylistic method of verbal encouragement constitutes a threat or if elbowing Jim in the ribs is really an accident.

Summary
(but beware, I am tricksy.) Bonus appearance by Memory!Winona.
Excerpt:
One day, Jim walks into Captain Pike's office and Captain Pike is a woman.... She's sitting in the chair at a slight lean the way Pike always does, resting one elbow on the armrest at the same angle and tapping the computer screen with the same finely-shaped hand. Same greying hair, same wrinkles around the eyes, and, when Jim says "Good afternoon, Captain Pike. You're looking a little different today" she looks up at him with the same expression of vague humor and disbelief.

Excerpt:
"Run that by me again?" Chris says.
"I need you to look after Joanna for a few hours," says Haprin. Her voice is different over the comm. It's been flattened, not stripped of depth so much as soil, cool and tightly packed.
"This is very short notice, Haprin," he says.
"Yes, it is," Haprin answers, and there's a bold silence during which she does not mention that she was sent to the Riverside shipyard on equally short notice. Chris apologized at the time, but it was unavoidable that she go in his stead. How was Chris to know two weeks ago, when the walk-through was scheduled, that today he'd be too lazy?

Summary
Part of the "Five Times Kirk Stole a Kiss" subseries of Rambleverse (but beware, I am tricksy.)
Excerpt:
Obviously the skirt is way too poofy to be practical but, as Winona told Jim while she was scrubbing the engine grease from under her nails this afternoon, she's off-duty and it's a party so practicality can take a hike. Jim agreed to a point, that point being a reasonable concern for safety, and he had the advantage of being totally right so it only took twenty minutes to convince her to swap out her aluminum stilettos for no-slip boots.Series

Wherein Bones has a fit and Jim builds a fort by kayliemalinza

Summary
Excerpt:
"Jim!" Bones shouts again. "What the hell is this?""It's my Wall of Manly Solitude," Jim says around the toothbrush in his mouth. Sheesh, was Bones even paying attention to his internal monologue? It's like the guy doesn't even care.
Jim adopts the appropriate wounded expression but alas, it's not quite effective in this situation, as Jim's Wall of Manly Solitude extends from the floor all the way up to the ceiling and is totally opaque. In fact, it's opaque due to the cheerful colors of his chosen building material (pre-form interlocking plasteel bricks, all the rage on bleak backwater colonies,) and he took great pains to work some jaunty zig-zags into the design. A man's home may be his castle, but it doesn't have to be drab.

Summary
Excerpt:
"You are looking for Chris, right?" Elena asks.
Jim blinks at her for a few seconds before he realizes that 1) Chris = Captain Pike and 2) Elena isn't going to reveal that Pike's body is in a burlap sack under the porch. That would be an amateur mistake, see, no matter how certain she is that Jim cannot escape her clutches.
"Yes ma'am, I am," Jim says finally. "I've looked for him all over the planet, actually. He isn't on campus, he's not at the shipyards or on a training mission. He's not answering his comm and his yeoman won't tell me anything, so...."
"So you looked up my home address," Elena says, in a voice so dry that the Mojave Desert probably just crept a mile closer to the patch of woods they're standing in.
