Summary
There's only one thing that humans really have right about their underwater brethren, and that would be that they enjoy capturing land dwellers. Not for the nefarious, flesh-eating sort of plots, but as a right of passage almost. One must at least attempt to snatch one of those beach-going humans if one is ever going to be seen as a respectable adult in society. Most of the youngsters come back clutching a bikini top and giggling hysterically (and they wonder where their lost articles of clothing go), but the truly fortunate actually get their hands on someone.
And that is exactly what our protagonist (or antagonist) is doing right this very minute.

Summary
It didn't matter how real it was. The damage done to your ears and brain are consistent only with people kept under water pressure for as long as you had been, but sea dwellers and a magnificent underwater society just isn't the explanation "rational" people are looking at. Never mind the still-healing wound on your chest, or the fact that the stone set in your ring is worth more than your foster parents make in a year. Never mind the small scratches on your hips or the faint black staining on your finger tips or the fact that no one else has any other ideas. They think you're crazy, and despite your one physical token, the only connection you have, you're starting to think that you may be as well.

Summary
One of the reasons you got hired for this job was the standard of perfection you adhered to. Nothing goes wrong, not on your watch. It means doing most of the work yourself and many sleepless nights, but it's worth knowing that things will run off without a hitch. You'd filled out the forms, waded through the red tape, and assured the traditional politicians that Sollux Captor was not a threat to national security. He was under the protection of your department, and you were going to remove him and debrief him as soon as the paperwork cleared. No security action needed to be taken against him what-so-ever.
But the next thing you know, Deuce is coming in to your office looking more than a little befuddled, saying that an elderly man and a distraught teenager were here to see you and no, they didn't have an appointment, but apparently it was very urgent and related to the Captor case and what the fuck do you mean he's missing?
