Summary
"Metamorphosis" takes place in the Gifts-verse, where Spike was resurrected as a human after dying in "Chosen" in 2003, and went back to the name William (so the 5th season of Angel never happened).
It takes place in the summer of 2005, so William-formerly-Spike has been human again for 2 years, and is working in New York City as a bartender.
It alludes to the alley scene in "Dead Things" - and Kafka.
