Description:

Two broken people somehow manage to put their pieces together and build something remarkable, even as the world around them is falling apart. When a mouthy mage with a submissive streak meets a mage-hating ex-slave, Kirkwall will never be the same.

Notes:

Based on my Julian Hawke playthrough. Credit to xatmos and his Meta Game Abilities mod, which allowed me to totally cheat by hot-swapping party members so my pro-mage mage Hawke could successfully friendmance Fenris. Thanks also to Gibbed for his Dragon Age Save Generator, which made it possible for me to use an Amell save without actually having played an Amell in Origins.

Title is from the song by Annie Lennox.

I've altered the canon timeline slightly so that it makes more sense. I don't see how it's possible for the Warden to have traipsed all over Ferelden multiple times, ended the Blight, and dealt with the mess in Amaranthine in a year. Therefore, in my personal canon, Hawke and Varric don't actually meet until Hawke's second year in Kirkwall. There are only two years between the Deep Roads expedition and the start of Act 2. In addition, I took pity on Hawke, and moved "Alone" to take place a year after he's named Champion and two years before the start of Act 3, so that he and Fenris can get back together sooner than they do in the game.
