Summary
At the end of Enemies Among Us, when Hawke has defeated Tarohne and cleared the ranks of the Templars to rid them of demons, Knight Captain Cullen pledges that the Templar order is in Garrett's debt.
Unfortunately, Garrett takes this quite literally, and harasses the Knight Captain almost daily for eighteen months in an attempt to free Bethany from the Gallows. When that plan fails, he asks instead for something much more simple- a single night of freedom for his sister.
This story has small references to an AU story of mine, hinting at the history between the pair. Bethany and Cullen first encountered each other in the Chantry the day after Karl's death, then again in the foothills chasing after Wilmod. When Bethany was finally taken to the Gallows, Meredith had her locked in solitary confinement for two weeks to 'break her in'; during that time, Bethany fell desperately ill and went unnoticed for several days. Cullen was the one to discover her, and in her fevered state she unwittingly revealed her attraction to him.
Bethany has been in the Gallows for eighteen months now... and the attraction is not one sided.

Summary
A follow to The Knight Captain's Favour, set about eighteen months later in the early weeks of Act II. Bethany and Cullen realise they've both been keeping secrets from each other, and that sometimes the one thing forbidden to you above all else is the thing that holds the most fascination for you...
Also, as a side note, my Amell was terrifyingly awful. She was a bitch. Sexual deviant and manipulative psycho don't even begin to cover it. But Cullen was of course younger and impressionable, and Aurelia was quite a handful.
And brutum fulem was a real latin insult. It meant 'vain or harmless thunderbolt' (bad translation, I know). Basically it referred to someone who was making a lot of noise and being needlessly threatening, but then never followed through on the threats. It seemed rather elemental, referencing a storm, and so it seemed like just the kind of in joke that mages would enjoy. I love it.

Summary
The follow up to Eavesdropping, set about two weeks afterwards
In Act II, Hawke kills the Templar Varnell in retaliation for the torture and murder of the Qunari delegate and his guards. Interestingly, no retribution is ever forthcoming for this act- both the Chantry and the Gallows seem to turn a blind eye to his actions in exchange for peace.
But what of Bethany, trapped in the Gallows as a Circle Mage, at the whims of any Templars who might share Varnell's views on the Qunari? Wouldn't she be at risk of violence and worse from the more fanatical elements in the ranks, who perhaps might take offense that her older brother slaughtered one of their own?
Knight Captain Cullen certainly thinks so. And he's not about to let Garrett Hawke's folly put Bethany in danger. Resisting her might be harder and harder, but no harm will come to her under his watch... until his plan to keep her safe backfires in the most temptingly dangerous of ways.
