We're sorry you're disappointed by the changes. Unfortunately, as a small user-funded site, we don't have the same resources as big ad-supported / paid sites like Livejournal and Fanfiction.net, so we can't always implement similar options or solutions. However, we are working on ways of improving the new emails, based on user feedback, and we think we've come up with some solutions that will make the subscriptions more useful again while cutting down on some of the biggest problems with load. We'll keep people posted about this once we've had a chance to work on it some more.
