On batching, right now we're imagining subscriptions hourly and Kudos daily - we'll start with the one default setting and then evaluate what options to provide based on demand and complexity.
I'd personally prefer it the other way around. My subscriber list can't be anywhere near enough to warrant hourly emails. I could probably do weekly on those. XD On the flipside, the vast majority of my kudos come from guest accounts and I love seeing those as they come in. A daily batch would be kinda disappointing on my "oh, someone liked this" random esteem/ego boosts when I'm working. It's a mental YAY every time I see a kudos email - only getting that once per day would be a letdown.
I totally understand, I love seeing kudos emails, they brighten up my day :)
Alas for our email sever, more kudos is given than anything else and it's starting to be a problem. The email queue now chokes up when a biggish event happens.
We have been trying to fix it from as many different directions as we can. We've been optimising our code so it's as efficient as possible, we've bought bigger and better servers, we're always tuning how we set up the servers, and after doing all of that we're now introducing email batching.
We're aware we're taking something away from people by removing individual emails for things like kudos and we're sad to see it go. We're hoping in offering User Stats at the same time, that people feel like they are getting something cool in return.
Thank you for your feedback, this wasn't an easy decision for us to make for exactly your reasons. I hope you'll still get joy out of using the Archive!
