I can imagine Kristine Sutherland watching Joyce and then glaring at her as if to say "How could you say something like that to Buffy? You're her mother; she needs you in her life, even if she doesn't know it sometimes. Mark my words, Joyce. You will regret what you said to Buffy -- one way or another." And in a way, Joyce instantly does regret what she had said to Buffy that fateful night, and wishes she had been more open and more willing to accept what her daughter had been telling her about the supernatural as well, instead of betraying Buffy's trust by assuming that Buffy had some kind of psychosomatic illness and sending her to a mental hospital.
