An approximation of my face, when I saw the Damar series tag: :D :D :D
The Blue Sword is one of my favorite books - God, I don't know how many times I've reread it - and I just love what you've done here. :D Pepper as Harry is just perfect, especially because Pepper deserves more fic where she is badass. (And I'm totally just going to sit over here imagining that the Corlath equivalent looks rather like Tony, and his horse is named Dummy, and Jarvis may fill a roll very similar to that of Mathin.)
Coulson as Richard also makes excellent sense, since they're both so buttoned up and proper, but it was Clint as a filanon that made me grin with joy. He is so the leader of the magical archers. :D I bet the beads on his bow are a very pretty purple.
My only real complaint is that this isn't about five times longer. ;)
Ahhh I'm glad you approve! :D I love it too, I've reread it so many times that I didn't even have to look anything up when I wrote this, although it's been a good year at least since I read it last. I'm just happy there are a few Avengers fan (and specifically clint/coulson fans) who've actually read the book and aren't confused as hell by where I'm coming from! I almost didn't bother to post it, I didn't think anyone would read it. XD
I had Pepper as Harry before I even thought about it, and then when I mentioned it to my beta, she went 'Phil's sister?' and I was like I KNOW IT IS BRAIN BREAKY BUT and she tried to convince me to go with Sharon instead, but it had to be Pepper, seriously. Phil being Richard is obviously non-negotiable, even if that hadn't somehow been where this whole idea started, it's just too perfect. And because this is Phil's story, and not hers, I didn't really go into the rest of it, but my brain finally did break when I was considering Tony as Corlath and we called it quits on the speculation, there. XD However, Natasha is totally Senay, absolutely, and there should be fic about that.
I actually agree with you about it being longer, but if I started expanding it I didn't know where I'd stop, and since I didn't really think there'd be too much interest in it, I didn't bother. But I might go back and do some more with this eventually, both adding to this story (because needs more Clint, obviously, including the purple beads, of course he does!) and expanding on the verse - not sure where Steve would fit in, tbh, or whether I could make Tony work as Corlath, because...Tony. IDK. BUT if he was - no no, Isfahel cannot be Dummy. HE IS GOLDEN-RED, HE IS FIREHEART, HE IS OBVIOUSLY IRONMAN. :D Or, you know, Ironheart, or something! :3
Anyway, thank you for taking time to tell me what you liked! ♥
Phil and Pepper being siblings made sense to me, since they're both very detail-oriented, controlled sort of people.
OMG, Natasha as Senay is PERFECT! :D I was trying to figure out where Natasha fit in, because she didn't quite make sense as one of the Riders. But Senay is awesome (okay, really, who am I kidding - all the characters are awesome) and makes sense as a Natasha parallel. I figure Tony would work as Corlath in part because I like Tony/Pepper, but also because Corlath, while a good king, is stubborn, proud, and occasionally prone to kelar-induced fits of randomness. Rather like Tony, only in Tony's case it's less kelar and more his particular brand of crazy genius.
I stand corrected. Isfahel is Ironheart, indeed. Narknon could almost be Dummy - and then Tony gets very cross because his favorite hunting cat likes Pepper better? I could see Steve being some mythical hero who spent a little too long with Luthe.
Would you mind if I did a kind of remix of this story, from Pepper's point of view? It just sounds like soo much fun.
I love Senay so much, one of my thoughts for years has been how much I would like to write her story, so...I may just do that! XD Particularly starting with the laprun trials, god that would be fascinating.
The thing with Tony as Corlath that I find the hardest to get around is...I'm not even sure, really, because it's not the authority, Tony can do that with the best of them - and it's not the kelar, because yes, totally bits of random crazy genius. It might be the anger? I don't know, I'd have to think about it some more, but I do think it could work, it'd just be hmm...a fine line, balance wise, to write it.
I actually DID think of Narknon as Dummy, but I'd hesitate to do that if only because Narknon is so...snarky. Dummy is very much not, and I hate to lose any opportunities for snark. (This is the main reaons why I should totally write more of this with Clint, because in retrospect I think I really didn't let that come through clearly enough in this one.)
The more I think about it the more I am highly tempted to say that.... Steve IS Luthe. For which I'd need to retcon a bit, or something, I think, considering I mentioned him here. But aside from the superficial fact that he's blond and awesome, he's someone even the king (which okay, Tony) has respect for and maybe looks up to a bit, and the calm centeredness that comes from knowing yourself really really well, not to mention the obvious it's not easy, being a bridge when your two worlds are the past and the future. There's just something ageless and wise beyond time about both of them, plus I totally believe that Steve has some of that subtle, sly sense of humor. ;)
As for remixing it, I'm not sure? But go ahead and email me, my gmail is kameshinjite, and we can talk!
