Sherlock's unsent letter to John is just about the most heartbreaking, noblest expression of love that I have come across in the fandom...the idea that he wants to become like John, to do away with the great man and replace him with a Good Man--this is so, so powerful.
I love this entire section:
::::: I would rearrange all the atoms in my body if I could be the man you saw in me, the man you wrote about in your blog. Collapse into piles of carbon, nitrogen, copper, oxygen, let you reconstruct me into the person you want me to be.
I died for you. I died so I could be a better man for you. The friend you deserved. If I could die again, to stop this evil in the world, I would.
This is the only way I can be good for you. To take care of you the way you've taken care of me. Let me do this for you. You fought so much for me. Let me do this dirty work for you. ::::::
Oh...thank you! I wrestled with this particular chapter for weeks (I wrote most of it in a yurt in the middle of the woods on my iPod touch--weekend away with the hubby), so your words mean so very much to me. Reading this again after watching FALL gives me the shivers.
