This is beautiful. Dirk's voice is exactly right, and he's swearing in a high school history essay and just doesn't care, and the footnotes! The banter between Rose and Karkat is pitch-perfect, as is Dirk's analysis of Karkat's diary entry, and how he points out the unreliability of Karkat's diary. I laughed at Karkat's diary being burnt; I can just imagine the historianrage.
Thank you! Yeah, in this AU, Dirk is the terror of every staffroom. Teachers cringe when he hands them his essays, all properly bound and typed in meticulous orange, full of primary sources no-one even knew existed until now and obtuse yet inappropriate commentary on the subjects’ sex lives. Karkat, meanwhile, is basically the scourge of historians everywhere!
