I... seriously, I don't know what to say. It's exactly what I wanted, and more.
I love the begining; the double play of it...
And the whole thing! Its humour, and its faithfulness to what it must have been, just after. So many moments you almost made me cry (like with Selena's dreams at the beginning) , and you just... Seriously, it couldn't be more perfect. You kept them all there, and their relationship! :D
And I'm posting this now, so, in the chance you're checking up on yule now, you can find I love it. Because I do. I'll come back at a more awake hour to give you more reasonable feedback.
I really really love the beginning. It drops you into the situation, right away, and the dialogue fakes right into the past horror and back into the conversation. It echoes the dialogue in the movie, too.
They're all in character, but what I love the most is how you've written Selena. She's just... pitch perfect. (The initial 'Understandable', the way she doesn't keep her head down, the way she fights to get out, the way you have given us a glimpse into her old life, and the little detail, that she remembers her sister in law was pregnant; just... everything.)
I also love that you kept the fun in it--their interactions are hilarious throughout. And that Hannah is the one to realize they're in Quarantine. That you structure the whole thing around they telling each other how were the holidays. That they're all together. Your narrative voice, which fits the story and the movie perfectly. The ending!
Ah! I ended up all flaily again. Anyway! Much thanks for writing it--it seriously made my Holiday season.
oh hl, you have been the absolute dream of a yuletide recipient! thank you so much for the thoughtful and open prompts, for writing such an encouraging author letter, for having such an interesting dw for me to stalk and for being so generous and gracious after the fic was posted.
28 days later wasn't actually the fandom i had matched on, but when i read your prompt about the way they became a family, i just really wanted to write about the three of them, especially selena. it's such a great story, and after i had rewatched the film a couple of times i ended up thinking about the characters constantly, all through a really busy period at work before the holidays. you have enabled me right into a massive crush on cillian murphy, and i am not complaining about that at all!
thank you so much for making this such an awesome yuletide experience for me. i hope you had as much fun with your story as i had with this one, and i hope i get assigned to you again next year :) :) :)
