Not only is this a great extension of canon but it's got a brilliant style and some really clever ideas behind it. Bravo! I want to be friends with Kate.
Thank you! I think this fic is in some ways affected by the context in which I read the book -- with intent to write a Yuletide story, and specifically a Yuletide story for Macadamanaity -- so I was taking note of story elements I might not otherwise have paid as much attention to, and trying to think about how Katie's life might have gone over the next few decades. One thing I particularly liked about the book was how the fantastical elements are solidly grounded in everyday life, so I tried to carry that over, both in mimicking a real-world format (the Rolling Stone interview) and in pulling other real-world details in, like the Clintons' health care plan, the Occupy movement, Twitter and blogs, William Dear (who is a real person, and I am sorry for impugning him, but he directed the 90s "Angels in the Outfield" remake which was about the level of ridiculousness I was aiming for), etc.
