  1. Nice bit of backstory, with clever ways of explaining some of the more interesting bits from the movie--particularly the sniffing-like-a-dog and the swashbuckling.

    I can just about see Maximus communicating nonverbally as he haggles over his work. That was a nice bit of anthropomorphism.

    You made a great point about adventures: most of us like the idea of going on one and sometime we do, but we often overlook the difficulties. We watch "Lord of the Rings," but don't always notice how arduous it is for the characters and how many times they nearly get killed...or in some cases how many of them DO get killed. Or maybe we go on a trip around the world, or a long-distance backpacking trip and find that such things involve a great deal of physical and psychological discomfort.
