oh my word. can't even express how excited I am that this has happened. anon, you have made my little day.
I love how densely packed this is, if that makes sense - in one way this is simply a list of occurrences, but there is so much underneath that, everything means something. the collaboration and the "ours"-ness of it up against it being christopher who edits, sort of controls it. "He might be in love with Christopher's edits – he usually is." - and I am sort of in love with this.
"Christopher drags Auden away from the typewriter, an entire scene in hand. Auden reads the scene aloud to him. Christopher shakes his head and reads it himself. Auden wrinkles his nose and pulls out a pen. Christopher reads one line ten times over until they understand it. Auden makes a note on the page." not even sure why I loved this bit specifically so much but I think it's just - the visual, almost, I can see it so clearly. again, a list of things happening where all of them are perfect.
aughhhh just - thank you so much, I'm going to go and read this again, you are amazing!
It was an absolute pleasure to write for you and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I saw your prompt and had to go for it.
One thing I came across in my research, or at least saw a suggestion of and made up in my mind that It Was So, was how Isherwood was more or less editor-in-chief but also sort of stupidly in love with Auden's words. That dynamic is what just fascinates me about the two of them and I'm glad it came across!
