Comment on After Death

  1. Your description of Sherlock's fall, that terrible flight, was so vivid, I could see, hear, and almost feel it. It was nearly too much (not that I think you should change it). It's amazing that he survived, let alone with his faculties intact. This is why I don't want to see Ep. 3 (but I will, even if I have to force myself to keep watching). I am so afraid that John will be left alone for good.

Sherlock's motivations behind the decision to let John think him dead are certainly plausible. I can see Sherlock thinking this. Of course, Sherlock does forget the little matters of John's adulthood, his military and medical past. That John deserves the right to decide for himself. There is no malice in Sherlock, but there is unintended disrespect.

The final imagery, of Sherlock creating a hole in his chest that will mirror the one in John's. Guh. Striking, beautiful, and yet ghastly in its implications.

I see from Tumblr that you had a rough day today, so I wanted to reiterate that you have a wonderful gift. I hope that the struggle makes victory all the sweeter. *HUG*

    1. *hug* Thanks so much for your support. Who are you on Tumblr? PM me, and I'll go check you out.

Yep, Sherlock and John are pretty much just hollow shells for most of their Reichenbach time. And of course, Sherlock is the one who has the power to stop this at any time. Or Mycroft (but Mycroft will always protect his borther first, even if it means having to hurt other people, even unintentionally).

I'm hoping that Steve Thompson will be able to handle "The Reichenbach Fall" in the proper manner it deserves.

      1. I hope the bacteria or viral nasties leave at the earliest opportunity!

I'm not on Tumblr yet, although I do have an account. I need to set aside a day to figure out the process of getting started. At present, I check in daily with a number of Tumblr sites, including yours, so I am a "follower" of yours, but in a clunky pre-Web 2.0 way for the present.

I am feeling nervous about Thompson handling that episode, as I was underwhelmed with his last effort. Random!Sword-Wielding!Tuareg battling Sherlock in his flat. !???!! Yes, I'm sure Exotic! Mysterious!Asians do exotic, mysterious things in their own Exotic!Mysterious!Enclave. Pssst, ST, it's an urban neighborhood, with humans doing human things like shopping, drinking tea, making love. Being wonderful and horrible like any homo sapiens can be.
