  1. I'm sure there's a wealth of detail I am missing out on, but you did a great job of setting it up without infodumping, you know? It was just sparse enough to....hmm....make the bits that were left unsaid carry that much more horror with them.

Well, by all means don't read the canon then. It was honestly pretty silly -g-

      1. Fic to the rescue once again. It sometimes amazes me what fic writers can do with- mm, let's call it not well executed source material- sometimes.

I should rec you a rather more light-hearted take on the storyline that came out of the same comm challenge. That would be arysteia's Alter. Ego..

There's even a summary of the canon on the art page.

For all the the story was complete crack (Birds pecked him free! He attacked the armour with a rock! What is Rumiko even wearing? Why is there an issue-long flashback to the '80s drinking arc in the middle of the story? The Trenchcoat, oh, the trench coat!), the arc is a fan favourite because, well, it's so Tony: even his armour falls for him and has a dysfunctional relationship. There's also a pretty massive amount of non-con written for it, but I deeply didn't want to go there in a 3490 (canon alt universe where Tony's a woman and married to Steve) fusion.

          1. Cool, thank you :) Let me pick your brain a bit.

So far, this stuff has been like crack. (The addictive kind, not the...oh, nevermind, they're kind of the same, aren't they?) I don't really know any more about any of this than the movies and stuff I've come across on tvtropes, but now I want to just gobble fic because the fandom is awfully delicious-looking. So, with that said, let me ask you two questions:
            1) Is there a solid community/ies somewhere (LJ?), or one are there a few/ one I should go looking for in particular?
            2) I'm coming from a fandom where there's a pairing that pretty much is always used for schmoopy curtain-fic...when the two characters canonically mutually loathe each other, and not even in a foe-yay kind of way. It's a thing. So I have just got to ask what the "canon" (I realize it's a tricky beast in comic books, etc) is- are we in, "these characters are awesome, let's throw them together" territory? Or is all the shipping based on like deep bonding between characters, or...?

              1) There's a comm for Steve/Tony (Full disclosure: I mod it, along with a couple other authors.) Fic output is steady, but no where near SPN levels. That also means that we don't get nearly the goofiness the mega fandoms get (which you may not believe given the level of wank in the above comments section. There is the odd troll).

              2) Steve and Tony (or Natasha, depending on the universe), have been friends for something like fifteen years. Iron Man's was the first voice Steve heard when he woke up from being frozen for fifty years. They have had two or three major falling outs over ideals, and Steve died in the most recent one (he got better), so there was a lot of angst about that. For the majority of canon, however, they're friends and team mates. They bail each other out of trouble, they give each other mouth to mouth when needed, they make valiant speeches in defence of each other's honour, they know how each other like their bagels, they have very little idea about personal space, they rhapsodise about how beautiful each other's eyes are. And there's that one AU where getting married prevented the Civil War. This relationship holds over the three major comics canons (main, MA and Ults), and from interviews will be similar in the films.

              1. ahah. Awesome. Okay, I can totally see why they're so much shipping there. Thank you so much. I did have to kind of wonder, because my impression from the movies is that, well, upon first meeting, the chance of trying to kill each other would be quite high.

And thanks for the comm tip!
