I wanted to like this book sooo much. The premise is really interesting, but the way the original sort of ignored the very disturbing implications of her premise was upsetting. There's more that disturbed me than just the sexual exploitation, but, well, I ended up reading it as a thoughtless romp.
Your story, however, faces some of the issues head on. I love this look into Spencer's universe; I love that you've made it clear that this world isn't a lighthearted, perfect place. Your characterization is very good, your depiction of a this era society is dead on...
I love this story and I'd love to see more with these characters and in this style of this canon universe!
I actually do think the original was intended to be disturbing under the lighthearted veneer, because it's a deliberate but implicit commentary on conventional romance tropes, which sugarcoat equally creepy and disturbing things that mostly no one even notices.
