  1. I would rather the internet become a utility, so that all of the "bedrock" services like Google, Facebook, various website hosts, etc have to follow the more stringent anti-discrimination laws that phone companies have to. But, as it stands, these bedrock services can defacto ban speech off the internet by collusion, just because they don't like it.

    That's not saying that the big telecom services will not do the same thing, but from a business standpoint it would be counter-intuitive. If we cannot have Net Neutrality as classifying the internet as a utility, and protecting free speech in the United States, I would rather pay more for internet service that would protect my speech.

    It's a shitty situation either way.

    1. To clarify, the the FCC classified the internet as a utility in 2015 under Title II. A federal court of appeals upheld the utility classification in 2016. On December 14th, the FCC will vote to UNDO the utility classification.

      1. TrueRadicalDreamer is saying he wants the internet writ large to be regulated as a utility, rather than just regulating ISPs’ conduct in the so-called last mile.
