As I said, interesting this difference. I for one like that. Of course I agree with you that the original test had other implications.
But the obedience and dealing with the fallout does say something about leadership skills for me. It takes an unusual man--or woman--who can prioritise his/her crew's life over dubious orders, willing to take any punishment. Which, yes, sometimes a bad thing, but I can't believe blind obedience in every situation is a quality they want in a leader.
I'm like you in that sometimes even the smallest detail can make me overanalyse it, so I can't throw any stones in that regard. :) And as you see, my mind works in very weird ways. *g*
But the Kobayashi Maru is one of the few aspects of the new movie I allow myself to think about at all, because so many other aspects of it are liable to make my brain hurt. Far too many plot holes. And Vulcan gone! Gah.
But yes, Nero would have caused change. Perhaps far stricter military rules and a more aggressive stance than in the original. So perhaps the test suits their new needs?
I guess everything can be interpreted in a number of ways, most if not all of which are valid in a certain light. And these interpretations are fascinating to me.
