In a universe ruled by the masters of the City-Planets, Dominic Cobb and his friends are on the run for more than their lives. Dom's wife, Mal, has fallen prey to modification psychosis after being wired-in by Cobol, the true power behind the Gate-City.
Dom is in a wilderness of despair at the loss of his wife. His companions, drawn from the highest and lowest castes of the Gate-City long before, and knowing how much they owe him, do what they can to keep things together. But moving to a borderland space station, while they regroup from the devastatation of their world, may prove to herald the worst things they could ever have imagined -- among them an old war that has never been settled.
Past, present and future collide and annihilate, most of all for Eames, the Psion soldier who controlled time's passage, and Arthur, the City-Soldier who sold his abilities for the chance to kill the Psions in the name of the Gates.

In the early days of illicit dreamshare, Mal and Dom Cobb are poised to take the extraction world by storm. All they need is a point man. Enter Arthur, a brilliant eighteen year old with a strange connection to dreamshare and a miserable work and living situation. As Mal, Dom, and Arthur begin to work on their first extraction together, the first incarnation of the team is born.
Fast forward nine years. Arthur is only one of the original team left in the business. Things have gotten dangerous in the extraction community, with the vague threat of a new generation of extraction teams that are forming and quickly becoming violent, ruthless in their pursuit to make it to the top. Unsurprisingly, the best team in the business is most at risk. Because of this, Arthur, Ariadne and Eames have to take...a short sabbatical to throw the violent new teams off their trail and get back on their feet. However, this is quickly interrupted when they are captured by enemies. The only difference from all the other times something similar has happened is this: it's real life, now.

After a chance meeting at an art gala, Robert Fischer starts to dream of things that seem slightly too real to be forgotten. He dreams of rain, and snow, and gunshots, and it's keeping him up at night. But then he meets a woman who tells him that she can fix his dreams for him, if only he trusts her.
Meanwhile, the team from the Fischer job are scattered back across the world, continuing with life as best they can when you've already achieved the impossible. On top of finding out more about the PASIV device and questioning its place in their zombie-infested, fear-fuelled world, they need to make sure that Robert Fischer doesn't realise why they're really exploring his father's company.

Arthur's known since he was young that he has a knack for cooking and baking, and beginning culinary school only makes him more certain. But no matter how good he is, it seems Eames is better – which does not endear him to Arthur in the slightest. Eames, however, is quite determined to get Arthur to open up and stop being so uptight and prickly by any means necessary. While each hones his skill in the culinary arts (and Arthur desperately tries to convince Ariadne that the desired structural integrity of her cakes violates basic laws of physics), they increasingly find themselves drawn together, inside the classroom and out. Given such close quarters in the kitchen, and the amount of sensory stimulation involved with preparing all manner of food, it starts to become difficult for Arthur to retain his customary level of distance and detachment. And, as Arthur will find, when it comes to unsatisfied appetites, hunger is often the best sauce of all.

A little girl who has spent lifetimes in limbo appeals to the team for help. Arthur and Eames, having recently decided to go halves on a safe-house, find themselves anything but safe as they try to bring the girl and her mother to Cobb's dream institute on the other side of the country. They are not the only ones with an interest in the girl, who is proficient in more than just dream-sharing. She challenges the idea that reality is as simply defined as "being awake." This story also follows the characters in a "through the years" ending, therefore, heed the warnings! I wanted to deal with loss, and in some cases, moving on, in a realistic way.
