A long time ago

Oct 2008 actually but Velociraptors make everything cooler

there was me

and The Organization for Transformative Works and the Accessibility, Design & Technology committee who are building the Archive of Our Own

I served on AD&T for nine months in 2008 doing software design and drawing pretty pictures - and some ugly ones and testing said software and playing bughunter and being the Archive Administrator - except anyone brave enough to volunteer was pounced on with glee and being organised which is kinda my thing. Oh Veronica, I worship you and loved it

The end of 2008 approached in which

The Organization for Transformative Works committees dissolve I've already forgotten your name and reform refreshed as in the Great Circle of Life

In what I can only call a moment of wild optimism

Astolat, our beloved leader

said

Would you like an elegant piece of office furniture... no, no serve as the Committee Chair of this fabulous and desirable committee for 2009?

I initially panicked, which is a totally reasonable reaction but after some thought tried to look cool and laid back and (in an Australian accent) said 'Yes'

...which may be a sign of insanity

or genius! (or excitable hair)

but hey, you only live once

and so I bravely took on the arduous and weighty responsibility - it was! of gently shepherding, not cuddling lambs although that looks like fun too my committee of colourful, wonderful people through the long process

of developing the Archive Of Our Own (the logo is a temporary logo by the way) for the 2009 term

We took a month off

for Christmas I lay around a read a lot and it was brilliant and I watched all of Merlin S1 over a couple of days and giggled myself silly *stores up rest*

In January we were back on and it was

*my* committee and I had this great big whip and *plans*

and a funky

I mean Director's Chair, it was all very dignified

and we all worked together in flexible and interesting ways. I may have exaggerated about the dignity which was awesome and sometimes felt like flying - seriously, I love you all so much go team!

I got the flu

in March which was evidence of a level of volunteering that a depressed lemming would have earnestly counseled against

but it didn't matter

because my beautiful, dedicated committee

were

no, not baby hedgehogs. AD&T were, amazing, positive and everything I could ask for

which I appreciate!

The The Organization for Transformative Works had

a fundraising drive and people generously donated money! and a powerhouse of organisation and giggly jokes got excited because

we could fulfill one of our goals because tech is fundamentally sexy to own our very own servers

because we had a budget. Oh filthy lucre; be mine! for which means

being able to add more users!

well I got excited :)

We celebrated on with hope and joy

I helped run and then I ran away to Sydney to meet Astolat in real life who was in $my country visiting *\o/*$ and I went to which was fun!

I discovered the hilarity that is Better off Ted thanks to Oxoniensis and Leverage *apologises for doubting you all* which was awesome

They cancelled Primeval

then changed their minds

There were tears but not mine, I am a big meanie and and a vast amount of persistence in the face of adversity which I respect

Elz used her magic skills to fix the search filters on the AO3 to and coded 'summon wasps'

We built a translation interface so the AO3 can be translated into various languages and made a whole bunch of improvements to the archive as a whole and coded an invitation system so we could add more people easily *fans self*
