(AU post 5.22) In the autumn following the averted Apocalypse, Sam is struggling with nightmares and memories slipping past the wall Kali put in place when she pulled him from the Cage. Gabriel's torn between helping his lover to the best of his ability and helping reorganize Heaven with Cas and Raphael. Whatever it is, it doesn't sound good, and according to Ruby, it's been traveling in their wake for some time. Sam and Dean have bigger problems. Ever since Dean was rescued from the pit the brother's have been struggling to cling to the fraying bond stretched thin between them. The secrets they've been keeping from each other certainly haven't helped, especially when those secrets start to come to light. In the beginning, there is a possessed doll and an angry spirit. Then the doll gets destroyed, the spirit banished, and Sam and Dean move on. But it seems something is following them – or so Sam believes. Yet he knows just as well as Dean that that is absolutely impossible, so maybe Sam is just going crazy and all the weird noises he hears are simply the sounds of the wall in his mind falling to pieces.

The souls of sinners eventually develop callouses that protect them from the worst of the torture in Hell. Adam, unfortunately, has too little of these to count, so he jumps at the chance when Michael offers a solution that could save them both: binding his soul to the archangel's grace. It makes life in the Pit slightly more bearable, his soul is no longer in danger of being shredded, and Adam even comes to see Michael as a friend. When they are raised from Perdition, however, Adam realizes that there was a heck of a fine-print to this seemingly sweet deal: he and Michael are soul-mated and there's no such thing as divorce-court in Heaven. Marriage to an angel isn't all puppies and rainbows, especially when you're also juggling a family curse and some dewy-eyed bromance crap.

The last time Sam saw his brother was back in 2007, they had just killed the demon, their father had just died and they hadn't parted on the best of terms. Four years (and one completed law degree) later, they meet in Minneapolis where Sam is called to defend two clients charged with murder. Two clients that Sam remembers from when he was a kid spending time in Blue Earth; two of his brother's closest friends. Jared and Jensen have been together for four years. Jensen can tell they are going nowhere fast, and he wants Jared to get his act together so they can move forward, or Jensen will have to move on without him.
Jared is a typical clueless guy. He doesn’t see why anything needs to change when he already has a gorgeous, wonderful boyfriend, a funny, if stupid, best friend, a job that pays the rent, a doting mom even if she’s married to a smarmy used car salesman, and a really cool bar to hang out at, where everyone knows his name. He honestly doesn’t understand why Jensen and his roommates are making such a fuss about some “rut.” So, it comes as a surprise to him when Jared royally screws up their Anniversary plans…again…and Jensen dumps him.
However, hardly any of that matters because that was before…you know…the Undead Infestation.
Now all Jared wants to do is rescue Jensen and his mom and take them somewhere safe until this whole nightmare blows over. Then maybe Jensen will give him a third…or a fourth…or maybe a fifth chance.
