Dean sees a happy future that his brother could have, should have had, as Sam walks away, before the sound of a gunshot shatters the illusion, and reminds him of what the world really is.

Summary
A story looking at the last half of "Devil's Trap" through John's eyes. He was himself, for most of their escape. He never suspected that his greatest enemy lay nestled deep inside him, waiting to strike and kill. They never thought that when they all let themselves think they'd finally escaped, that enemy would strike, aiming to take his sons away from him forever and make him listen to their screams as they died. Even in his worst nightmares, John never thought he'd be the one responsible for killing them, even if it's not by choice.
But the Yellow Eyed Demon is about to find out that John Winchester will never give up his boys without a fight.
